HELP TOWARD A YOUTH-LED AFRICA
SUMMARY
The International Islamic Youth League IIYL is an international, social, non-profit, nongovernmental organization established since 1991 with its Global Office based in Sierra Leone and has Representative offices 48 countries across the Globe, the organization established by His Excellency Ambassador Prof Dr. Hamid Ahamed Kanneh PhD Chairman and Global Chief Executive Officer. The objective of the organization is a Urban Youth Employment Project for West Africa
Youths to improve the capacity of participating of young men and women in project areas to engage in productive income generating activities. Our Youths Project has four components. 1. Youth Job Corps component will raise the awareness of the project in targeted urban areas among youth in their communities, mobilize eligibleyouth, provide them with Basic Life Skills and Job Readiness Training (BLST) and place them in public works schemes.
Our youth’s component will be in four subcomponent communications and Mobilization subcomponent will support community awareness and mobilization
campaigns, communications and related activities to identify eligible youth and inform them on the procedures and requirements for participation under the project. Basic Life‐Skills and Job Readiness Training subcomponent will provide Basic Life Skills and Job Readiness Training (BLST) to approximately 50,000 youth to increase their knowledge and preparedness for transitioning into the workplace both in the formal nd informal economy. Urban Works and Services subcomponent will generate approximately 50,000 participants, enabling youth to develop technical skills and apply the soft skills learned through public works for 30 paid days after they complete the BLST. Other Technical Assistance Activities subcomponent will finance a set of technical assistance activities, such as studies and diagnostics. Skills Training component will be provide a range of market‐oriented training programs for approximately 20.000 youth to improve their general and technical skills needed in the workplace. Internships subcomponent will provide an approximately 4,600 youth the opportunity to work with employers on a three‐month internship in entry level jobs. Continent with the jobs and resources necessary to establish and develop their projects, by providing comprehensive and innovative solutions in the field of youth employment through working directly with our field offices in Africa. The International Islamic Youth League IIYL believes that youth are an effective energy
that contributes to the social and sustainable development of societies in a sustainable and inclusive manner. The International Islamic Youth League IIYL seeks to provide a a decent life for young people in Africa and through them, and seeks to protect them from the scourges of poverty, unemployment, terrorism and extremist trends this could be achieved through contributions by the Organization in addressing unemployment problems.
Challenge
This complex challenge requires educating society about the problem of youth unemployment in Africa communities, developing a strategic policy by governments and launching comprehensive media campaigns to encourage and support new ways of thinking to create job opportunities that stimulate business entrepreneurship and create innovative alliances to provide business development services and capital stimulation to invest in small and medium-sized youth businesses. Achieving these objectives requires the collaboration of entrepreneurs and local investors to create the infrastructure to develop new jobs and at the same time find practical ways to create a link between young job seekers and employers looking for qualified and skilled individuals. Development Objective
The development objective is to improve the capacity of participating young men and women in project areas to engage in productive income-generating activities, The
International Islamic Youth League IIYL has a wide range of international local offices across Africa in close cooperation with line governments Ministries of Youth Affairs, as well as international and regional influencers locally and at Global levels.
Long-Term Impact
A pioneer in supporting youth-led sustainable development, our work centers on enhancing the capacity of young people to develop and implement their own solutions to Africa challenges, through our programmes, we are able to develop young leaders at an unparalleled Africa scale and offer targeted support to youth-led initiatives. Evidence and reporting from our Change makers across the Africa has shown a demonstrated ripple effect from these initiatives in their communities. Donation required, at the end of the training, youth are required for receive a full kits to sustainability within their communities for job-creating opportunities.
MASONRY, CARPENTRY, COMPUTER EDUCATION AND METAL WORKS
Project Outcome 90% of the youth trained will be self-employed as Africa does not have the employment capacity to absorb these youths. During the training the youth would be encouraged to come together to form cooperatives that can benefit them and future youths. 10% had been projected to be absorbed in the private sector which
is of a low capacity.
MASONRY, CARPENTRY, AND METAL WORKS:
90% of these will be self-employed as in Africa, there are very few companies that handle masonry, carpentry or metal works on large scale
COMPUTER SKILLS TRAINING
This project sector will be absorbed in the private sector and maybe the government since it is highly needed. Youth trained may not have the financial capability to start their own training centers; hence it will be better if they are absorbed in the private sector.
LONG-TERM IMPACT
The project offers new opportunities for youths and young adults to become computer literate. They are now viable and competitive in the market place. They progress in their careers and rise above poverty. They contribute to national development. Computer technology is advancing faster than ever before.
