URGENT HUMANITARIAN APPEALS TO SUPPORT INTERNALLY DISPLACED PEOPLES IN NEED IN THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO (DRC)

The situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is indeed critical. Since 2023, the country has faced an alarming escalation of armed conflict, particularly in the eastern part of the country. More than 25.4 million people, about a quarter of the country population are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. The eastern provinces have been severely affected by violence and insecurity, leading to widespread displacement. Epidemics like cholera and measles have also taken a heavy toll.

In 12th May 2024, the humanitarian community aims to assist 8.7 million people across the country with critical aid, including medical services, emergency water, sanitation, and hygiene support. Neglecting food insecurity could exacerbate the crisis. Urgent action is needed to alleviate suffering and protect vulnerable communities.

The people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) are paying too high a price for food, due to an unbaiting armed conflict, particularly in the eastern part of the country. This situation has been alarmingly worsening since 2023, transforming the country’s protection crisis into one of the gravest worldwide.
